Kirklees adult learning disability team launch new sensory room

The Trust is delighted to launch the new sensory integration assessment room available at Cullingworth Street Specialist Services Hub in Dewsbury. The room was opened in October by Chief Executive Mark Brooks and supported by members of the Executive Management Team and colleagues from the learning disability service.
The Trust’s learning disability service has seen an increased focus on training in occupational therapy, up to level 3 sensory practitioners. Consequently, this also increased the need to make more assessment rooms available in our localities, which improves the accessibility and reduces travel times for patients, whilst bringing equity across the service.
The Trust now has four sensory rooms available to practitioners which can be found at Hebden Bridge Health Centre, Horizon Centre, Mapplewell Health Centre and now Cullingworth Street Specialist Service Hub.
The new facility has the additional benefit of having suspended swing equipment to allow full vestibular and balance elements of the sensory assessment to be completed.
The room is also multifunctional and can be used by occupational therapists working locally in CAMHS and also by other therapy staff, as there is a patient hoist and plinth for physiotherapy postural assessments and clinic-based therapy sessions.
A huge thank you to all the staff involved in the planning and delivery of this project.
The room will be accessible via an internal booking system, operated by the Kirklees learning disability admin staff. For more information contact the service on 01924 316714.
