Local people urged to nominate their nurse of the year

Date:

South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust is urging local people to nominate mental health and learning disability nurses for the 2011 Patient’s choice award. The Nursing Standard has launched this award as part of their 2011 nurse awards.

The patient’s choice award is an opportunity for members of the public to nominate a nurse, midwife, health visitor or healthcare assistant who has made a real difference to their lives. The award will also highlight and reward outstanding practice in the nursing profession.

To make a nomination people need to complete an entry form which they can request from www.patients-choice.co.uk or by calling 020 8423 1066. The deadline for nominations is 21st January 2011. The winner will be presented with their award at an event in London in April 2011.

Chair of the Trust Joyce Catterick said, "This is an excellent opportunity for local people to say thank you to someone who has made a real difference to their lives. Our organisation is full of unsung heroes who work tirelessly to improve the lives of others.

"We employ over 2000 staff across Calderdale, Wakefield and Kirklees. Often, staff who work in mental health and learning disability services can be overlooked in award nominations. This award gives people the chance to say thank you and recognise the vital work which people within the NHS and social services do every day."
