Trust safeguarding lead to present at international conference

Date:

A registered mental health nurse has been chosen to be a keynote speaker at an international conference in Croatia.
South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust’s safeguarding lead, Julie Warren-Sykes, was selected to be one of three presenters by the scientific committee of the International Association of Forensic Mental Health Conference, which will take place in June.
She’ll be providing a presentation covering the origin and development of the Prevent duty, which helps to stop people being drawn into terrorism, while sharing lessons learned from a local inquiry around the failure of services to intervene appropriately to safeguard vulnerable children and young people.
Julie will be joined by leading professionals Professor Michael Daffern from Australia and Professor Jeffrey Swanson from the USA.
Julie Warren-Sykes’ professional career spans across 25 years both as a registered nurse and a social worker. She is currently assistant director of nursing and quality at the Trust, and is also a trustee of the charity Samantha Sykes Foundation Trust which was established in 2014 in memory of her daughter.
Julie said: “I’m delighted to be sharing my knowledge on such an important topic on an international stage. Safeguarding adults and children that come into contact with our services is a key priority for our Trust and something that I am passionate about making sure is at the forefront of our organisation’s culture. To be chosen to present on this topic and represent safeguarding in mental health services was an honour. I’m really looking forward to attending and meeting other professionals in the field.”
