Wakefield stop smoking service launches animated ad

Date:

Wakefield Stop Smoking Service is urging the 80,500 smokers across Wakefield to ‘swap fags for swag’ with this year’s annual No Smoking Day focusing on the financial benefits of quitting.

The Wakefield Stop Smoking Service, which is run by South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, has taken the novel approach of producing an advert to get this message across for No Smoking Day, Wednesday 13 March.

The short animated film is designed to encourage smokers to think about the alternatives to using their cash to fund the spiralling costs of cigarettes.

Pippa Lloyd, stop smoking specialist, explained the thinking behind the ad, “We wanted to capture people’s imagination and get them thinking about what they could be spending their money on if they did quit.

“It’s amazing when someone stops smoking as you see the massive difference in their health but they can also tell you what they have spent their money on that week. They may have been able to take the kids out for a day or they’ve saved up for a holiday.

“Obviously the health benefits are vital but also now cost is one of the main reasons people are accessing services like ours to get help to quit. It’s such an expensive habit to keep!”

The service will be out and about giving Wakefield’s smokers who want to quit, the opportunity to sign-up and access the free local stop smoking service. The team of friendly advisors will be on hand to provide more information on the benefits of quitting and the opportunity to sign-up to the service. The events will take place at:

  • Pontefract Market on Wednesday, 13th March from 10am to 3pm
  • Castleford Xscape on Wednesday, 13th March from 3.30pm to 7pm
  • Quit Shop, 21 Northgate on Wednesday, 13th March from 7.30am to 7pm

Research shows that smokers are four times more likely to give up and remain smoke free with professional support than if they try to quit on their own.

The service can be contacted on 01977 465449.
