NHS Trust invites Todmorden to support Festival of Wellbeing

Date:

Local residents are being invited to events at Todmorden Health Centre on Tuesday 6th October to support the South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust’s Festival of Wellbeing.

In partnership with NHS Calderdale’s Stress Down Day there will be a range of activities helping people to combat stress including yoga, stretch & tone and ‘confess the stress’. The events support the Time to Change anti-stigma campaign and information will be available on overcoming stigma and maintaining a healthy mind.

The Time to Change van will be visiting Todmorden Leisure Centre between 9am and 12pm and Todmorden Health Centre from 12.30pm to 3pm.

The events are part of an 18 day festival being held across Calderdale, Kirklees or Wakefield, designed to mark world mental health day 2009. Over 150 events and activities are being held on the themes of ‘Get moving, get creative and get involved’.

Other activities taking place locally include a walk starting at the health centre at 1pm on Tuesday 6th October, which is designed to get people moving and involved to boost mental wellbeing and raise awareness of mental health.

A drop-in session will also be held on Tuesday 13th October at the health centre from 10.30am. The group is open to anyone concerned about their own or someone else’s mental health and offers friendly, free and confidential.

The Trust’s chief executive, Steven Michael, said: “This is an ideal opportunity to raise awareness of mental health issues, reduce stigma and promote wellbeing. We know that creativity, physical activity and social inclusion all make a big difference to wellbeing so our festival is concentrating on these areas. We want people in our local communities to be able to try something new to enhance their wellbeing.”

Anyone who wants to join in can contact 01422 281514 for more details.
