Make 2014 your year to quit with help from Wakefield NHS stop smoking service

Date:

Wakefield specialist NHS stop smoking service, run by South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, is offering support to people who have ‘stop smoking’ as their New Year’s resolution.

Smoking still remains the biggest cause of premature death in England, accounting for 80,000 deaths a year with half of all long-term smokers dying prematurely from a smoking related disease.

To encourage people to quit, Wakefield’s stop smoking service is supporting the new NHS Smokefree Health Harms campaign which delivers a powerful message about the damaging effect that toxins from smoking have on the blood, lungs, heart and brain. The campaign also highlights the free support available to help people quit successfully.

Sandra Wilson, specialist lead for the Wakefield NHS stop smoking service said, “68% of smokers tell us they want to stop smoking, although relatively few actually make an attempt. We really want encourage people to make a fresh start in the New Year. Figures show that you’re four times more likely to quit smoking for good if you use NHS stop smoking services, so we urge local people to access the free support and advice provided by our service.”

Wakefield’s specialist NHS stop smoking service provides individually tailored and flexible support with friendly teams who have experience in helping many people to go smoke-free.
