Speech and language therapy share their successes with professional body

Date:

Key figures from the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT) recently visited Barnsley to hear examples of good practice from our children’s speech and language therapy team.

Chief executive Kamini Gadhok and director of policy and public affairs Derek Munn met with the team who shared a number of their successes, as well as discussing how the service as a whole can improve further.

The children’s speech and language therapy team in Barnsley have a high number of people attending their booked appointments due to the work they’ve put in to raise awareness of non-attendance among referrers. They shared tips on how they’ve achieved this with Kamini and Derek, who in turn agreed to give the team a list of useful contacts to enable them to collaboratively develop their service.

The RCSLT is the professional body for speech and language therapists in the UK, providing leadership and setting professional standards.

Clinical manager Janet Whiting said: “This was a great opportunity for us. Kamini and Derek took away information about our service that they could use and we were grateful for the chance to ask questions on how the professional body approaches things. All-round it was a useful meeting and definitely gave us food for thought.”
