Darren turns bangers into cash in charity car challenge

Date:

Business support manager Darren Phillips is getting behind the wheel for the 2021 Veterans Banger Rally in support of the Trust’s charity, EyUp!

The rules of the rally are that you must purchase a road-worthy car for £500 or less and redecorate your ride in any way you like. You must have two or more people in your team, and one team member must be a military veteran or serving member of the military.

Darren’s top gear team, Bangers to Ca$h, consists of him alongside his two sons Charlie and Harry.

The Rally will run from 5 September starting at the National Memorial Arboretum and will finish on 10 September at the Royal British Legion club in Runcorn. Between 50 and 100 teams from across the UK will be taking part.

The driving force behind the challenge is to raise money for various military charities as well as a charity of each team’s choice. Darren’s choice is EyUp!, which supports the work of the Trust; making a difference to community, mental health, wellbeing and learning disability services.

Darren said: “The plan is to arrive at designated points each day with tasks to complete on the way, and to hopefully not break down!”
