Meeting with Trust chief executive Mark Brooks, Gavin and Wendy visited the adult mental health inpatient wards at Kendray Hospital and the stroke rehabilitation unit.

They also heard a briefing from the Trust and Barnsley partnership colleagues about a range of services designed to bring care closer to the local community.

Gavin said: “I was really impressed by what I saw – the stroke unit is first class and I was pleased to see how colleagues on the inpatient mental health wards were working to provide good, person-centred care.”

He continued: “On top of that I was bowled over by a range of updates on a wide range of community-based services that had been developed by the place partnership there, including innovative work to deliver physical health checks for people with serious mental illness. It was a great visit and a big thank you to Mark and colleagues for taking the time to share their work with Wendy and me.”
