World mental heath day event huge success

Date:

South West Yorkshire Mental Health Trust joined forces with the emergency services to celebrate World Mental Health Day at a seminar held at Briar Court hotel, Halifax Road.

People with mental health problems, their carers and healthcare staff had the chance have a go at tai chi and dance therapy at the event called ‘to accentuate the positive’.

The fire, ambulance and police service gave a talk about health and safety in the home. There was also a variety of information stands and professionals from a variety of organisations on hand to offer advice and a listening ear.

Deputy Chief Executive Steven Michael said, "The event was a fantastic chance to focus on the positive aspects of mental health and raise awareness about issues surrounding mental health. It was also an opportunity to build on much of the good work already going on in Calderdale in partnership with South West Yorkshire Mental Health Trust, the emergency services and other agencies."

The event was one of many celebrations that took place across South West Yorkshire Mental Health Trust to help promote mental well-being and reduce the stigma surrounding mental illness.
