Staff in the community equipment service shortlisted for national award!

Date:

Congratulations to staff in the Trust’s community equipment service in Barnsley who have been shortlisted at this year’s HSJ Efficiency Awards.

The team entered the Efficiency in Transportation and Logistics category, which looks for entries that can show they use a person centred approach; have a clear focus on safety and energy efficiency; and have increased efficiency in terms of cost savings and/or improved productivity resulting from a more innovative approach to vehicle use, journey planning and redesign of other areas related to transportation.

The HSJ Efficiency Awards aim to recognise and highlight innovative measures that have been introduced in NHS trusts to deliver efficiency savings and reward staff who have made the achievements possible.

The finalists for this year’s awards have been shortlisted as they demonstrated exceptional cost savings and efficiencies, without sacrificing their high standards of patient care.

The community equipment service provides equipment for all service users in touch with Trust services in Barnsley, with the overall aim of providing equipment when and where it is needed to support community care and promote the independence and dignity of service users.

Wayne Bendelow, operational manager in the service explained, “Our service works in partnership with individuals, families and across organisations to prioritise identified health needs and plan evidence based approaches to ensure we can deliver a high quality service that meets people’s needs.

“Once a user has been prescribed health or social equipment or a service has requested medical items for a specific date, it benefits everyone that they receive the equipment on time, in full working order and with dignity and privacy.

“Efficient logistics in community equipment is an integral part to many of the mechanisms of community services. The work we have been doing over the last year, which we based our award entry on, aimed to raise overall performance of the services and our objective – to deliver and retrieve as many health and social items as possible on time, in full working order and in the most efficient and cost effective way possible.

“The team are thrilled to have been shortlisted for the awards and we have been invited to attend a judging day in July when we will present details of our entry to the judging panel. Then it will be fingers crossed for the awards ceremony in September.”
