Enable Barnsley is moving to Longcar Lane
Enable Barnsley, the Equipment, Assessment and Demonstration Centre, is moving to Longcar Professional Development Centre, Longcar Lane, Barnsley, S70 6BB with effect from Monday 20th August 2012.
Enable Barnsley is managed in partnership by Barnsley Council and South West Yorkshire Partnership Foundation Trust and provides free independent advice, information, assessments and support to people of all ages, families, carers and professionals, who want to find out about the wide range of equipment available to support and promote safe and independent living.
Currently based at Wellington House, Enable Barnsley will close on Friday 10th August 2012 to visitors and will re-open at Longcar Professional Development Centre on Monday 20th August 2012.
Enable Barnsley does not provide or sell equipment, but staff based at the Equipment, Assessment and Demonstration Centre are able to give advice about what equipment is available and where it can be purchased.
Staff are available to help identify an individual’s needs and support people to make their own choices to improve their quality of life and maintain independence. There is a wide range of equipment on display at the centre that staff can demonstrate and visitors can try the equipment to see if it is suitable to help with daily living tasks.
Some of the equipment and services available at Enable Barnsley include stair lifts, mobility equipment, adjustable beds, bath lifts and raised toilet seats, which can be demonstrated in a realistic and safe environment. Staff are also able to help by making an appointment to discuss equipment to help with memory problems. A list of local and mail order suppliers of equipment is available.
Awareness sessions are held on a regular basis where professionals, colleagues from health, housing, social care and third sector groups are welcome to attend. These sessions provide an opportunity to see equipment and services that are available to promote independence.
Elaine Meehan, Centre Co-ordinator, said: "Although we are moving to a new location on Longcar Lane it will not affect the quality of the service we provide and hopefully we will be just as accessible for people wishing to use the service."
Enable Barnsley is open Monday to Friday 9am to 4pm, where local people can make an appointment by telephone or in person during a `drop-in’ session.
