Second admiral nurse for Wakefield

Date:

Carers of those with dementia are set to benefit from extra specialist support across the district.

Admiral nurses are a Dementia UK initiative.  They are specialist dementia nurses who give expert practical, clinical and emotional support to families living with dementia to help them cope.

A second admiral nurse for the east of Wakefield will join an existing nurse who covers the west of the district. Both posts are funding 50% by Dementia UK and 50% by South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.

James Waplington, general manager of the Wakefield older people’s service, said: “Admiral nurses provide very specialist support from diagnosis to post bereavement.  They help families deal with their feelings and learn coping strategies.  Admiral nurses support people at difficult times in their dementia journey.  This includes when the condition progresses, or when tough decisions need to be made, such as moving a family member into residential care.”

We are currently recruiting for the second admiral nurse position.
