The girls said: “Grandpa has stopped smoking for Stoptober and he is doing really well. He spends more time with us without having to go out for a cigarette. We are very proud of Grandpa because if he stops smoking for ever he will be healthy.”

Nationally, the Stoptober campaign has driven over 1 million quit attempts and is the biggest mass quit attempt in the country. Those who choose to quit with the support of their local stop smoking service are four times more likely to quit successfully.

N’rai and Imani’s father is a specialist stop smoking advisor with Yorkshire Smokefree, one of the services run by our Trust.

Wayne said: “I have been smoking since the age of 14 and my two grand kids brought home a Stoptober leaflet they found in their dad’s car. They asked me to give up smoking saying if I do they will take me out for a meal to McDonald’s. So I took up the offer. My motivation is to see my grandkids get older and for them to see me live my life healthy without them worrying about my health.”
