Celebrating Falls Awareness Week in Barnsley

Date:

We marked Falls Awareness Week in Barnsley at a special event aimed at helping people to prevent falls.

Staff from different services manned stalls alongside other local organisations to help local people learn how to stay safe and avoid slips and trips during the winter season.

At the event, members of our neighbourhood nursing team, including district and frailty nursing, offered support from their stall. There are a lot of misunderstandings about leg health, according to more than 120 people who dropped by to ask questions about it. Our team was on hand to address these myths, offer helpful guidance, and share information.

We also had over 300 people coming to talk to our physio and occupational team. We were able to give out 50 free walking sticks and changed over 100 rubber ferrules at the bottom of walking aids.

Hannah Robertson, physiotherapist advanced clinical practitioner in the neighbourhood rehabilitation team at the Trust commented: ‘‘The event was a huge success for the local community – thank you to the Barnsley integrated community equipment store for their support in the provision of the walking sticks and ferrules used at the event and thanks to the Barnsley market team who organised a fantastic community event.

“Also, thanks to all the amazing teams who participated in the event for their valuable time and resources, which greatly contributed to the resounding success of the event. I can’t wait to join you all next year!’’
