The Trust’s facilities operative recruitment programme supports candidates in their application process and offers flexibility to people over a 12 month training programme. At the end of the 12 months, they are offered a substantive role.

The scheme, which has had three cohorts so far, encourages a diverse pool of candidates to build their skills across a range of facilities roles. The roles offer candidates an entry route into the NHS while being supported to meet the requirements for basic literacy and numeracy skills.

Jacob joined the Trust in September as part of the programme. Before joining the Trust, Jacob completed a one year transition to work programme known as DFN Project Search, which is for young adults with a learning disability or autism spectrum condition, or both.

As part of the programme, Jacob completed placements at Pinderfields Hospital with the patient porter and facilities teams and the facilities team at Kendray Hospital. These placements have helped Jacob secure his new role at Kendray Hospital in the portering team.

Jacob was pleased to be offered his role with the Trust and wrote a thank you card saying: ”Thank you ever so much for offering me a job – it has been a great pleasure and I hope to be working here for decades to come.”
